For those of you who have following my participation in the Café to Café motorcycle challenge, it all came to an unfortunate conclusion the day following our visit with Battalion Chief Mike Smith. A mechanical failure put my two-wheeler on the back of a flatbed transport truck headed many miles south to the only dealer in the area.

The only thing I like about unanticipated negative events is the opportunity to learn and meet excellent new people and businesses doing good work. This Lagniappe contribution is in appreciation of those people and businesses.

Verizon Wireless had connectivity in this remote area of northern California. Safeco motorcycle insurance has a towing inclusion. The woman on the hotline was exceptionally helpful and communicated persistently until the tow service arrived. When the driver from Budget Towing showed up he was exceptionally helpful, efficient and professional.

The next challenge was getting home, 600 miles north. There was no airport nearby with available flights, no rental cars available that could be left in Seattle. My nephew, a local businessman, called a long term contact at S.J Denham rentals and a car appeared for the long drive home.

When the bike arrived at Elk Grove Power Sports they simply took care of business. There was regular communication through troubleshooting, part order, repair and then exceptional patience for the two months after repair that the bike has been with them.

From my experience, these businesses and the good people who served me epitomize high quality customer service. In appreciation, this month’s Lagniappe contribution had been made to the Northern California Veterans Museum and Heritage Center.
