Mom had a saying, “You ought to be ashamed,” and I frequently was.  She also had an accompanying facial expression that eliminated any ambiguity as to her degree of disgust with my behavior. It was a sort of hands-free discipline that worked.

Business leaders complain about entitlement philosophy and related behavior on the part of unions and employees. Generations think entitlement philosophy is a characteristic of subsequent generations. The examples of late in business and politics pretty much defy reason.

Entitlement is alive and well at all socio-economic levels and is not owned by one generation any more than another. It is an issue of character. Mom would call it greed and selfishness. Bring shame back. I’m the Outsider and that’s what I think.
